Support and manage the internal technology infrastructure at MarineLabs.
The Internal I.T. Support Specialist will support and manage the internal technology infrastructure at MarineLabs. This role ensures that staff have reliable, secure, and efficient access to systems, networks, and digital tools. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and capable of balancing hands-on technical support with long-term system improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Systems & Network Management
- Maintain and troubleshoot local networks, routers, switches, and wireless systems.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls across company systems (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, etc.).
- Oversee system backups, software updates, and cybersecurity tools.
- Support secure remote access and VPN configurations for field and remote/hybrid employees.
Technical Support & Operations
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for internal users.
- Manage hardware inventory including laptops, servers, and field devices.
- Maintain internal documentation for IT processes, systems, and configurations.
- Coordinate vendor support for specialized hardware or software systems.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Implement and monitor security policies on IT infrastructure and SaaS applications aligned with company and client requirements (e.g., NIST 800-171, ISO 27001).
- Conduct regular security audits and staff training on best practices.
- Manage antivirus, firewall, and endpoint protection systems.
Systems Improvement & Projects
- Evaluate and deploy new tools or automation to improve workflow efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and software teams to support integration between IT and product systems where needed.
- Participate in the planning and rollout of IT infrastructure upgrades.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in IT administration, preferably in a small to mid-sized organization.
- Experience provisioning and maintaining IT infrastructure and personal computers.
- Experience managing cloud-based environments (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace).
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of network configuration, security, and system backups.
- Familiarity with Windows, Mac, and Linux environments and their remote management.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Assets
- Experience with compliance and security standards.
- Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with marine or environmental data systems.
